Whale Island Resort, founded more than 28 years ago by a French-Vietnamese couple, sits on Hon Ong island in Van Phong Bay, Khanh Hoa, and comprises 31 bungalows built from bamboo, wood and stone with no concrete structures. The resort runs on solar power, avoids single-use plastics and sources daily seafood from nearby fishermen, and has partnered with Rainbow Divers and the PADI AWARE Foundation on a coral reef restoration project in the bay.
