Sapa O'Chau, founded by Shu Tan of the Black Hmong ethnic group, describes itself as the only tour operator in Vietnam officially registered as a social enterprise, and is run as the first ethnic minority-owned international tour operator in the country. It combines trekking and homestay tours with a boarding facility, cafe and Hmong handicraft store, and has trained around 90 local students as tour guides. It won Best Community Initiative at the 2017 World Responsible Tourism Awards.
