EQUO was founded in 2020 by Marina Tran-Vu in Ho Chi Minh City after she witnessed plastic pollution in Vietnam. The company researches and manufactures plant based, fully compostable materials from rice flour, sedge grass, sugarcane bagasse, coffee grounds and fermented coconut water, turning them into straws, cutlery and other single use plastic replacements. EQUO now sells to customers in 15 countries.
