1+1>2 Architects is a Hanoi practice founded in 2003 by lecturers at the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, led by architect Hoang Thuc Hao. Under its 'Happiness Architecture' philosophy, the firm combines traditional materials, rammed earth, bamboo, on-site clay brick, with modern construction methods for low-cost, low-carbon rural buildings, including more than 52 completed schools and community houses such as Nam Dam Homestay and Ta Phin Community House. Its sustainability work has earned six Vietnam Green Architecture Awards (2013-2021) and its founder sits on the executive board of the Vietnam Green Architecture Council.
