Set at NASA in the early 1960s, Hidden Figures follows Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, three Black women whose calculations put John Glenn into orbit, working inside a space program that was racing the Soviet Union and a country that had not yet decided they belonged in the room.
It raises a question: what does an institution actually value, its stated mission or its inherited habits, when the two come into conflict?
Watch for who gets credit for a piece of work, and who does the work. Watch for how a room's physical layout, a coffee pot, a bathroom, a nameplate, tells you exactly how a hierarchy actually functions more honestly than any policy document does.
